The John Paul II Centurions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 70-48 loss at the hands of Geneva. While losing is never fun, John Paul II can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1254th, while the are ranked 388th).
Several Centurions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eliseo Garcia, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 43.8% of John Paul II's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Teddy Chavez, who scored ten points along with four steals.
John Paul II has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-22 record this season. As for Geneva, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-6.
John Paul II will head out on the road to face off against the Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Geneva, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Guardians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
