With a playoff game on the line, the Robertson Cardinals rose to the challenge on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Socorro 45-13 at home. Considering Robertson has won seven matches by more than 22 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Jesse James Gonzales, who threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Ortiz, who picked up 88 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The win (which was Robertson's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.8 points per game. As for Socorro, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-3.
Robertson will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Cobre at 1:00 p.m. Cobre has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 167 points over their last four matches. Socorro does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
