Even though the Richwood Rams scored an imposing 56 points on Thursday, the Winnfield Tigers still came out on top. Winnfield enjoyed a cozy 70-56 victory over Richwood. That's another feather in the cap for Winnfield, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Winnfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Damascus Lewis, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylon Jackson, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Winnfield now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Richwood, their defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 11-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winnfield will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Madison at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Madison knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Winnfield likes a good challenge. Richwood will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Wossman at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Wossman will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
