Two dominant guards in Jordan Leslie and Dominic Rhoades-Martinez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mullen Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Denver South Ravens at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Arapahoe scored an imposing 65 points on Friday, Mullen still came out on top. Mullen secured a 71-65 W over the Warriors.
Meanwhile, Denver South had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 67-29 victory over Hinkley on the road. Given Denver South's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Denver South's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Trease, who scored 11 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Trease has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brody Shepard, who scored ten points along with six assists and three steals.
Mullen's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Denver South, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5.
Mullen came up short against the Ravens when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 73-66. Can Mullen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
