The Ballard Bruins will square off against the East Jessamine Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Ballard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Ballard barely beat South Oldham the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went Ballard's way against South Oldham on Thursday as Ballard made off with a 10-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won three in a row.
Ryleah Lawrence spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aubrie Newton, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Shelby James was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
East Jessamine might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-6 to Henry Clay, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kylee Oliver was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alex Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Even though they lost, East Jessamine lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
The victory got Ballard back to even at 2-2. As for East Jessamine, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Ballard has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like East Jessamine struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ballard took their win against East Jessamine in their previous meeting back in May of 2016 by a conclusive 14-4. Does Ballard have another victory up their sleeve, or will East Jessamine turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
