Softball Recap: Freedom Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

Freedom won the last time they faced Waupaca and things went their way on Thursday too. The Irish were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Comets. The Irish might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Kailey Stordeur tossed a big game, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Breanna Dallmann, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlee Smith, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Freedom always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waupaca only posted an OBP of .294.

Freedom has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Waupaca, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Freedom is set to challenge their familiar foe Denmark at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Irish 3.6, the Vikings 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Waupaca will face off against rival Wrightstown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
