Softball Recap: Hollins Wins Going Away Against Pinellas Park

Hollins's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They blew past the Pinellas Park Patriots 9-1. The Royals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by eight runs or more this season.

Shayla Query spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits.

At the plate, Hollins let Ava Vargas and Hailey Mercado run wild. Vargas went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Mercado went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was Mercado's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Monnell, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Hollins was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pinellas Park only posted a batting average of .160.

The victory snapped Hollins' losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-8 record. As for Pinellas Park, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-7 record.

Coming up, Hollins will square off against Lakewood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pinellas Park, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Boca Ciega at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
