The Highland Prep Honey Badgers suffered their biggest defeat since December 19, 2023 on Thursday. They suffered a rough 42-22 defeat at the hands of Northland Prep Academy. Highland Prep's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Highland Prep lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anahi Nunez, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 50% of Highland Prep's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendra Ibeh, who scored three points along with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Northland Prep Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Abby Short out in front who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Short is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Grace Schulz was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight steals.
Highland Prep has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Northland Prep Academy, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-7.
Highland Prep on the road again on Saturday and play against San Miguel at 11:00 a.m. on January 20th. San Miguel comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Northland Prep Academy, they will be playing at home against Pinon at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
