Oakmont Regional is a perfect 10-0 against Clinton since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Gaels at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
On Wednesday, Oakmont Regional needed a bit of extra time to put away Tyngsborough. They skirted past the Tigers 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted against the Tigers since April 12, 2019.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clinton). They blew past Quabbin Regional 18-4 on Wednesday. Considering the Gaels have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jake Notaro made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Andrew Mortimer was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Davis Lunn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Clinton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Clinton's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Oakmont Regional, their record is now 9-2.
Oakmont Regional came out on top in a nail-biter against Clinton in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
