The Brunswick Blue Devils will take on the Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Brunswick comes in on six and Bloom-Carroll on 11.
Brunswick's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Woodridge as they made off with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Brunswick got a great performance from Kiley Williams as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Williams has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Madison Miller was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Leichliter, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Brunswick was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bloom-Carroll). They put the hurt on Hamilton Township with a sharp 17-0 victory on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Emma Brandt made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Brandt was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Claire Whitcraft, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Ady Luke was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Brunswick's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bloom-Carroll, their record is now 11-0.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Brunswick has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .487. However, it's not like Bloom-Carroll struggles in that department as they've averaged .506. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
