The Bennett Tigers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Wellington 56-14. Bennett was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-6.
When it comes to explaining why Bennett lost, one person who can't be blamed is Austin Stiers. Despite the final result, he picked up 167 receiving yards, and also rushed for 91 yards.
It was another big night for Cash Altschwager, who rushed for 179 yards and four touchdowns on only five carries, and also picked up 52 receiving yards. Altschwager really tore up the turf during one magnificent 97-yard run. Wellington also got a significant boost from Tanner Gray, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.
Bennett's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-1 Eaton and 7-2 Strasburg (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.4% over those games). As for Wellington, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Bennett does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Wellington will head out on the road to face off against Berthoud at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Berthoud is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
