South-Doyle is a perfect 3-0 against West since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cherokees will host the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. The last three games South-Doyle has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Tuesday, South-Doyle didn't have quite enough to beat Heritage and fell 3-2. The loss continues a trend for the Cherokees in their meetings with the Mountaineers: they've now lost seven in a row.
South-Doyle saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gigi Komeshak, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Komeshak also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Natalie Smithers was another, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but West ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Hardin Valley Academy. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 29, 2021, but that streak is no more.
Brooke Weaver was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Weaver was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Claire Davenport, who scored a run while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ella Blaire Bibee, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI.
South-Doyle now has a losing record of 5-6. As for West, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
South-Doyle skirted past West 3-2 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Cherokees have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
