The Cane Bay Cobras suffered their biggest defeat since December 16, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 55-27 defeat at the hands of Wando. Cane Bay has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ella Hill and Zahnyra Young certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Hill scored six points along with eight rebounds and three blocks, while Young scored four points along with ten rebounds. Hill has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played.
Wando found their leader in underclassman Malaya Mazyck, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mazyck has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Causey, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Cane Bay has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Wando, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cane Bay's road trip will continue as they head out to face Goose Creek at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Goose Creek presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cane Bay in South Carolina (Goose Creek is ranked 47th, while Cane Bay is ranked 167th). As for Wando, they will head out on the road to take on Stratford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
