It was a good run, but Watauga unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to the Freedom Patriots 81-77. Pioneers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Patriots since on Friday.
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Josiah Railey, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Railey a new career-high in boards. Cade Keller was another key player, going 9-for-21 to rack up 24 points.
Even though they lost, Watauga was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freedom only eight assists.
Leading Freedom to victory were Kobe Johnson and Amore Connelly. Johnson went 7-for-12 on his way to 18 points and three steals, while Connelly dropped a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 58% in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was King Johnson, who went 6-for-13 en route to 14 points.
Watauga's loss dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Freedom, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-6.
Watauga has already played their next game, a 56-42 win against East Mecklenburg on the 25th. As for Freedom, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 72-54 defeat against Northwest Cabarrus on the 25th.
