Even though the Van Vleck Leopards have not done well against the East Bernard Brahmas recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Van Vleck sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 63-60 win over East Bernard. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
East Bernard's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was London Cavness, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Abby Hudgins, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Van Vleck has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. As for East Bernard, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Van Vleck will challenge Brazos at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for East Bernard, they will head out on the road to face off against Danbury at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Danbury will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1255th, while East Bernard is ranked 600th).
