Cuthbertson is on a seven-game streak of home losses, Weddington a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Cuthbertson Cavaliers will take on the Weddington Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Cuthbertson pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 65-55 to Porter Ridge. While losing is never fun, Cuthbertson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Porter Ridge is ranked 34th).
Despite their defeat, Cuthbertson saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Christian Mundy, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mundy has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Amayah Rogers, who scored 13 points.
Cuthbertson struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Porter Ridge pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Weddington was the victim of a rough 59-34 defeat at the hands of Sun Valley on Tuesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Weddington has scored all season.
Cuthbertson has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Weddington, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.
Cuthbertson came out on top in a nail-biter against Weddington when the teams last played back in January, sneaking past 37-35. Will Cuthbertson repeat their success, or does Weddington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
