Germantown (Madison, Miss.) snapped
Magee (Miss.)'s 4-game winning streak, with a 27-14 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Tyler Shell to
Travis Singleton in the first quarter, the Mavericks led 20-7 at the half.
Germantown expanded its lead to 20 points entering the fourth quarter. GHS scored once in the quarter on a defensive touchdown.
With the win the Madison school extended its winning streak to six games. The Mavericks defeated the Eagles 45-7 last week.
The Trojans'
Alonzo Brown played well. The sophomore wide receiver ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to five on the year.
Germantown's standout player in the win was Shell. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
Coming into the game GHS had allowed 24.1 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding Magee well below its season average of 24.0 points scored per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which MHS took, 24-0.
The defeat comes as a step back for Magee, which notched a 17-8 victory over Port Gibson in its previous outing.
Germantown (6-3) will play a 4A Region 6 game against Richland next week, while Magee (6-3) will take on Mendenhall also in a 4A Region 6 game.
