The Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos will square off against the Twin Lakes Indians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lafayette Jefferson had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Lafayette Central Catholic on Friday. The Bronchos blew past the Knights 9-2. While the Bronchos didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Mason Pechin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ethan Lane, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Twin Lakes got the win against Rensselaer Central on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-3. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Bombers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Mason Brummett was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Holle, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Twin Lakes kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.6.
Lafayette Jefferson has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Twin Lakes, they pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lafayette Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Twin Lakes struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lafayette Jefferson came out on top in a nail-biter against Twin Lakes when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Bronchos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
