The Marshwood Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the Cheverus Stags at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Marshwood has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight defeats, while Cheverus will come in with seven straight victories.
Marshwood managed to slip by Bonny Eagle the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Hawks came up short against the Scots on Wednesday, falling 20-4.
Meanwhile, Cheverus got themselves on the board against Kennebunk on Wednesday, but Kennebunk never followed suit. They blew past the Rams 15-0. Considering the Stags have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Addison DeRoche was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailey Lamontagne, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Avery Campbell also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Cheverus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Marshwood's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Cheverus, their record now sits at 11-4.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Marshwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Cheverus struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marshwood suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Cheverus when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
