The Greene County Wildcats had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 55-44 victory over Poplarville on Tuesday. The high-flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Greene County considering their 20-point performance the game before.
Leading Greene County to victory were Rakhiya Moody and Zamiah Knight. Moody scored ten points along with two steals, while Knight scored 17 points along with three steals. Moody has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shannon Johnson, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Janiyah Jones, who scored 13 points. Tameah Bester was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Greene County's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-14. As for Poplarville, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greene County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Poplarville at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Greene County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday. As for Poplarville, they will head out on the road to challenge Bay at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Bay's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home while Poplarville has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
