The New Deal Lions will square off against the West Texas Comanches at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (New Deal has six straight victories, West Texas has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, it was close, but New Deal sidestepped Post for a 29-26 win.
New Deal got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Slade Martin out in front who rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Martin is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nathan Brown, who picked up 70 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to New Deal's defense and their three sacks. Konner Vasquez was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Meanwhile, West Texas was beaten by Stratford 55-7 on Friday. West Texas has struggled against Stratford recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
New Deal pushed their record up to 7-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.0 points per game. As for West Texas, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Everything came up roses for New Deal against West Texas in their previous meeting back in December of 2018 as the team secured a 57-6 victory. Will New Deal repeat their success, or does West Texas have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
