Two dominant backs in Colbin Garrison and Damon Mitchell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The San Luis Obispo Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Atascadero Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
San Luis Obispo took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They snuck past Santa Ynez with a 28-23 victory. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won four in a row.

A big part of San Luis Obispo's victory came down to the chemistry between Zion Hegg and his top target Grady Garrison. Hegg threw for 139 yards and one touchdown on only nine passes while Garrison rushed for 26 yards and a pair of scores. Those 139 passing yards gave Hegg a new career-high. Quentin Cramer made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
San Luis Obispo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cramer and Trey Walter. Cramer got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Atascadero beat Morro Bay 43-39 on Friday.
San Luis Obispo better keep an eye on Mike Trejo. He was instrumental in Atascadero's win, rushing for 39 yards and three TDs, while also throwing for 122 yards while completing 83.3% of his passes. Trejo's passing game has become a key predictor of the Greyhounds' success: the team is 4-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise.
Atascadero was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 474 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 281 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Atascadero's defensive line made their presence known, laying out Sands Dougherty four times. Bishop Resco was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Atascadero now has a winning record of 5-4. As for San Luis Obispo, they now also have a winning record of 5-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. San Luis Obispo has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 232.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Atascadero struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 221.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for San Luis Obispo against Atascadero in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 35-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
