Aztec and Miyamura are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Aztec is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Bloomfield 20-2 on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Kamora Henry made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She also allowed four hits, marking her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christina Whitehorse, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Yellow, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5.
Aztec lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Miyamura got themselves on the board against Rio Grande last Tuesday, but Rio Grande never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Ravens. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by ten runs or more this season.
Like Aztec, Miyamura also got a great game from a two-way player: ANDREA VINSON. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. VINSON has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Miyamura got a massive performance out of ALAYNA VIDAL, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. ALEXIS BEGAY was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
Aztec's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-10. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Miyamura, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Aztec hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Miyamura struggles in that department as they've averaged .399. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Aztec took their win against Miyamura when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-3 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
