The Batesville Bulldogs won the last time they faced the Madison Cubs, and things went their way on Saturday too. Batesville snuck past the Cubs with a 53-49 win. Given Batesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Cubs are ranked 273rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Batesville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Grunkemeyer, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Grunkemeyer has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cade Kaiser, who scored 13 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Despite the loss, Madison still got an impressive performance from Quincy Reynolds, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Reynolds hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Mason Davis was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Batesville is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Madison, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Batesville will take on the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Rushville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Thursday. As for Madison, they will be playing at home against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Carroll County is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
