Cazenovia is 1-8 against Marcellus since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Lakers will host the Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. Cazenovia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Cazenovia after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Christian Brothers Academy by a score of 6-5.

Irie Gallerani put in work no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Sophie Wilmot made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Caitee Fenton, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Marcellus never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Jordan-Elbridge on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Eagles. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Like Cazenovia, Marcellus also got a great game from a two-way player: Kendall LaManche. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. LaManche was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Marcellus let Millie Novitsky and Maddy Richer run wild. Novitsky went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI, while Richer went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan O'Connor, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Marcellus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jordan-Elbridge only posted a batting average of .167.
Marcellus is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Cazenovia, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Cazenovia's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's game. The Lakers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Marcellus, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Cazenovia continue to outrun the ball?
Cazenovia suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Marcellus in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Lakers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
