After flying high against the Centennial Coyotes last Thursday, the Willow Canyon Wildcats came back down to earth. Willow Canyon took a serious blow against the Mustangs on Monday, falling 68-40. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Willow Canyon in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost nine in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Willow Canyon lost, one person who can't be blamed is Keke Helman. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points. Kandace O Connell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Leading Sunrise Mountain to victory were Addison Wiemann and Savanna Dotray. Wiemann scored 24 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Dotray almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Maza, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Willow Canyon's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Sunrise Mountain, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Willow Canyon will square off against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Apollo is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Sunrise Mountain, they will head out on the road to square off against the Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Centennial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Thursday.
