The Grand Junction Central Warriors came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Durango 52-33. Grand Junction Central pushed the score to 42-18 by the end of the third, a deficit Durango cut but never quite recovered from.
Grand Junction Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Krystyna Manzanarez, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Manzanarez pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynn Wagner, who scored 14 points along with five assists and four steals.
Despite the loss, Durango still got an impressive performance from Mariah Maestas, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Grand Junction Central pushed their record up to 6-8 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.2 points per game. As for Durango, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
Coincidentally, Grand Junction Central and Durango will both be playing Grand Junction the next time they take the court. Durango will head out to face Grand Junction at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Grand Junction Central will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
