The Canterbury Crusaders had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They put the hurt on Gulf Coast HEAT with a sharp 50-29 victory.
Zy'nasia Alhuzaifi was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Canterbury's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'maria Long, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
Canterbury's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Gulf Coast HEAT, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canterbury will square off against Academy at the Lakes at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gulf Coast HEAT will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Family Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 15th.
