The Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] Spartans will take on the Rockridge Rockets at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Thursday, Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] didn't have quite enough to beat Biggsville West Central and fell 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by just one run.
Gabby Dean put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Dean was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
Dean wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ella Humphrey, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Rockridge unfortunately witnessed the end of their 14-game winning streak on Thursday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (14-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this game were averaging 3.54 runs allowed.
Charley Perkins was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilee Black, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Rockridge's loss dropped their record down to 22-4. As for Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge], their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-10.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Rockridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] came out on top in a nail-biter against Rockridge in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rockets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
