Even though the Discovery Spartans have not done well against the Auburndale Bloodhounds recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Discovery had just enough and edged Auburndale out 61-58. Given Discovery's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Auburndale is ranked 398th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Darius Livingston was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Discovery's points. Another player making a difference was Willie Wilson, who scored eight points along with seven assists and two steals.
Discovery pushed their record up to 15-5 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.3 points per game. As for Auburndale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Discovery won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mulberry at 8:00 p.m. on January 25th. As for Auburndale, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Davenport at 8:00 p.m. on January 25th.
