Given Byers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while Falkner is ranked 240th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Falkner's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Nunley, who scored 13 points. Nunley scored a full 38.2% of Falkner's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Wooley, who scored 7 points along with 9 rebounds.
Byers' win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.2 points per game. As for Falkner, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Byers will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Ashland at 7:30 p.m. As for Falkner, they will head out on the road to face off against Blue Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
