The Frazier Mountain Falcons will face off against the Immanuel Christian Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Frazier Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 32.8 points per game this season.
Frazier Mountain will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Orcutt Academy, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Falcons blew past the Spartans 52-20 last Friday. With the Falcons ahead 30-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Brazen Deavers went supernova, rushing for 175 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Frazier Mountain was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 267 rushing yards. They are 4-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Frazier Mountain's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Orcutt Academy's QB won't forget Charlie Martinez anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Frazier Mountain got some further help from Maurice Tondreau: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made 19 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Immanuel Christian faced Mammoth in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Crusaders walked away with a 48-40 victory over the Huskies. The Crusaders' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Frazier Mountain better keep an eye on Mazyn Weaver. He was instrumental in Immanuel Christian's win, rushing for 122 yards and three scores on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 214 yards and three touchdowns. Those 122 rushing yards gave Weaver a new career-high. Romelle Harris got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Immanuel Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Richard Holher and Harris. Another thorn in Mammoth's side was Anthony Huereque, who picked up a sack and made 19 total tackles (5.0 for loss).
Immanuel Christian's record is now 10-0. As for Frazier Mountain, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Frazier Mountain has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 199.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Immanuel Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 208.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Frazier Mountain took a serious blow against Immanuel Christian in their previous matchup back in October, falling 50-16. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Harris, who rushed for 131 yards and four TDs on only eight carries. Now that the Falcons know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
