Even though the Caliche Buffaloes have not done well against the Fleming Wildcats recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Caliche snuck past Fleming with a 43-39 victory. This was payback for Caliche, who suffered a 47-36 loss the last time these two teams met.
Caliche was led to victory by Ava Hernandez and Karsyn Huss. Hernandez scored ten points along with seven rebounds, while Huss scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Huss has scored at least 25% of Caliche's points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Gerk, who scored four points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Fleming lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Madi Serrato, who scored 15 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Siena Donnelson, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Caliche now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Fleming, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Caliche won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Haxtun at 2:00 p.m. on December 9th. Hopefully Haxtun focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday. Fleming will be home for the holidays to greet Flagler at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
