Robbie Aviles got the win, but a shot at a third straight no-hitter came to an end in Suffern's 2-1 eight-inning victory over Clarkstown South (West Nyack, N.Y.) on Wednesday.
Aviles gave up three hits, walked three, struck out 12 batters and gave up a run, his first of the season, to gain the victory in extra innings. The Mounties scored the winning run on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. Aviles gave up his first hit of the game in the first inning and allowed a run in the fifth inning.

Aviles is 4-0 on the season, and he was attempting to throw his third straight no-hitter after throwing a perfect game against Nanuet (N.Y.) on April 14 and a no-hitter against North Rockland (Thiells, N.Y.) on April 22.
Suffern, ranked No. 19 in the Class AA state rankings entering the game, raised its record to 9-1 with the victory. The Mounties lost an 8-7 decision to Ketcham (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) last week following Aviles' no-hitter against North Rockland.
Aviles reportedly hit 93 miles per hour with his fastball during the Clarkstown South outing and was consistently in the 90-92 mph range. He threw 101 pitches in the game, 73 for strikes, and performed in front of a number of scouts who have been following the Mounty senior the past few games. In his no-hitter against North Rockland, the Lower Hudson Journal News reported, 30 scouts were on hand to watch Aviles.
Aviles has struck out 46 batters so far this season. Aviles has allowed just eight hits in four games, five of them in Sufferen's season opener, a 15-0 win over Tappan Zee (Orangeburg, N.Y.).
In that game, the Mounties honored fallen teammates Vinny Crotty and Chris Konkowski, who were killed in an automobile crash prior to the start of the season.
