The Elkhart Elks will square off against the Buffalo Bison at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elkhart will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Friday, Elkhart needed a bit of extra time to put away Fairfield. They had just enough and edged out the Eagles 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Elks have posted against the Eagles since April 23, 2022.
Gracie Wade spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ella Lively was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Marisa Denny was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Buffalo unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fairfield.
Izzie Stone made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Elkhart's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Buffalo, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Elkhart has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Buffalo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Elkhart couldn't quite finish off Buffalo when the teams last played back in March and fell 8-6. Will the Elks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
