Elkhart is on an 11-game streak of home losses (dating back to last season), Plymouth a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Elkhart Lions will take on the Plymouth Pilgrims/Rockies at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Elkhart suffered their closest loss yet this season on Saturday. They fell just short of Mishawaka by a score of 48-45. While losing is never fun, Elkhart can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 346th, while Mishawaka is ranked 70th).
Javeis Hines put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 23 points along with six rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Trinton Harris, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, Plymouth lost a heartbreaker to Concord when they met back in January of 2022, and they left with a heavy heart again on Thursday. Plymouth fell 51-42 to Concord. Plymouth has struggled against Concord recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Coby Walters, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Preston Wolfe was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Elkhart's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Plymouth, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Elkhart have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 22.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Plymouth, though, as they've been averaging only 20.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Elkhart's way against Plymouth when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as Elkhart made off with a 65-43 victory. Will Elkhart repeat their success, or does Plymouth have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
