On Saturday, The Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators faced the Covenant Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Greenbrier Christian Academy took a 40-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of Covenant. Greenbrier Christian Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Covenant apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2021.
Greenbrier Christian Academy's loss came despite strong showings from DJ Caban and Connor Isenberg. Caban gained 120 total yards and two touchdowns, while Isenberg rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown.
Jonathan Newton was a one-man wrecking crew for Covenant as he rushed for 433 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 19.7 yards per carry. Newton's longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards.
Another reason for the win was Covenant's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Greenbrier Christian Academy's QB won't forget Alyx Mcwilliams anytime soon given Mcwilliams sacked him 3.5 times.
Greenbrier Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Covenant, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.
Greenbrier Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Covenant will head out on the road to face off against Christchurch School at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Virginia (Christchurch School is ranked third, while Covenant is ranked fourth).
