The Black River Pirates will venture away from home to challenge the Firelands Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Black River has now lost ten straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 30.
Black River couldn't beat Keystone on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Pirates came up short against the Wildcats, falling 16-6.
Briley Jackson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those RBI were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Remi Dieter, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Firelands). They were the clear victors by a 17-8 margin over Wellington on Tuesday. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Dukes recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Firelands let Lyla Keathley and Lexi Schrader run wild. Keathley went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple, while Schrader went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Keathley continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Addison Beal was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Firelands kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2025.
Firelands' victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Black River, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Everything went Black River's way against Firelands in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, as Black River made off with a 14-6 win. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
