The Pinson Valley Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 51-41 to Wenonah. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Pinson Valley in their matchups with Wenonah: they've now lost three in a row.
Pinson Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aniya Brown, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Brown continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabbie Hopson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Leading Wenonah to victory were Jakerria Ringstaff and Samarian Franklin. Ringstaff scored 19 points along with six steals, while Franklin scored 18 points along with six assists and five steals. Franklin hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Gabrielle Blanks was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Pinson Valley has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Wenonah, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 20-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pinson Valley will square off against Mortimer Jordan at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mortimer Jordan presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Pinson Valley in Alabama (Mortimer Jordan is ranked 12th, while Pinson Valley is ranked 149th). As for Wenonah, they will head out on the road to square off against Fairfield at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairfield is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
