The Houston Christian Mustangs came tearing into Thursday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 79-72 victory over Pinnacle. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Pinnacle still got an impressive performance from Braylon Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Johnson's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Nelson, who scored 18 points.
Houston Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. As for Pinnacle, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-5.
Houston Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Salpointe Catholic at 2:30 p.m. on December 29th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Salpointe Catholic is ranked 41st in Arizona, while Houston Christian is ranked 44th in Texas). Pinnacle won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Clovis West at 8:30 p.m. on December 29th. Clovis West knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 matchups -- so hopefully Pinnacle likes a good challenge.
