Churchill County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Sports Leadership & Management get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Greenwave might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by ten runs or more this season.
Janessa Bettencourt was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dana Buckmaster, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Taraylynn Vershum, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Churchill County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 13-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Fernley faced Boulder City in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Vaqueros walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Eagles. The win continues a trend for the Vaqueros in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won five in a row.
Ximena Rodriguez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Churchill County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 22-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Fernley, their win bumped their record up to 29-10.
