Camp Point Central is a perfect 4-0 against Astoria/VIT since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Camp Point Central will head out on the road to challenge Astoria/VIT at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Camp Point Central barely beat Mendon Unity the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Camp Point Central blew past Mendon Unity 17-1 on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Camp Point Central got a massive performance out of Karly Peters, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Miller, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Camp Point Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Astoria/VIT took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Monmouth United with a sharp 14-2 win. The Rebels not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 6, 2024.
H Horwedel made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Horwedel was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on S Heller, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. C Sutton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Camp Point Central took their victory against Astoria/VIT in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Camp Point Central since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
