Bloomington had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Perris Panthers by a score of 32-30 on Thursday. The Bruins lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in August of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 34-6 score last time.
Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Derek Fraembs, who picked up 94 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 72 yards and one touchdown. Fraembs' longest reception was for an incredible 78 yards. Another rusher making a difference was Dylan Fraembs, who rushed for 128 yards and one TD.
Even if they lost, Bloomington's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kevin Mitchell, Russell Robinson, and Braulio Sandoval, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Perris found their leader in sophomore Xavier Cruz, who threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns on only nine passes, and also rushed for 45 yards.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bloomington will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Corona at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Perris, they will host Redlands East Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
