Division II AA - West recap Sept. 26, 2012
Briarcrest Christian was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Arlington 41-27. The Saints came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 31 last week.
St. Benedict at Auburndale moved up to 128 from 158 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Division II AA - West. The Eagles were able to make the jump by beating Jackson Central Merry 55-33.
Jordan Rodgers threw for 191 yards and two touchdowns. He was 23-35 with zero interceptions.
Anthony Miller was the best wideout in the league this week as Christian Brothers beat Collierville. Miller racked up seven receptions for 77 yards. Nalan Callonas helped Christian Brothers' passing attack out by catching three balls for 59 yards.
Ramadi Warren was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 68 yards as the Purple Wave bested the Dragons. Teammate Kurtis Hicks added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.
Memphis University's Rodgers and Devin Perry have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Division II AA - West in both passing and receiving yards. Rodgers has thrown for 1381 yards this season, while Perry, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 20 catches for 332 yards. Hicks from Christian Brothers leads the league in rushing with 584 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Kevin Locastro's team and the Owls. The Purple Wave enters the game ranked 12th in the state, while Memphis University ranks seventh.
There should be lots of points scored when Christian Brothers and Bobby Alston's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Purple Wave comes in having scored 226 this season, while the Owls have scored 239. Christian Brothers scored 35 points last week as it defeated Collierville.
Briarcrest Christian extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Tigers, 41-27. The win marks sixth in a row for the Carly Powers's team.
