AAAAAA Region 8 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Parkview extended the longest winning streak in AAAAAA Region 8 this week by beating Shiloh, 28-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Panthers.
Brookwood was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Central Gwinnett. The Broncos came in at 17 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
Archer's dynamic duo of Gabe Tiller and Will Kone proved tough for Berkmar to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Tiller threw for 188 yards and one touchdown and Kone had 82 yards receiving. Deondre Singleton helped Archer's passing attack out by catching two balls for 39 yards.
Chris Carson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 140 yards on 20 carries as Parkview beat the Patriots. Justis Rosser also contributed to the rushing game with 109 yards on the ground.
The Black Knights' Eman Westmoreland and Justin Brownlee have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Westmoreland has thrown for 1137 yards this season, while Brownlee, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 38 catches for 689 yards. Carson from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 1037 yards.
Archer's Sean Fowler is a mere 50 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 139 carries Fowler has accumulated 950 yard this year.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when Central Gwinnett and Parkview meet this week. The Black Knights features well-regarded senior Trey Johnson while the Panthers has Trey Derouen, a sought after defensive lineman.
A big matchup in AAAAAA Region 8 this week will be when the Comets take on Andy Dyer's team. South Gwinnett is currently in third, while the Tigers are in fourth.
Dacula made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,378 from 3,587.
