The Wando Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Asheville School (Independent) Blues at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Wando is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, Wando was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 46-42 to Goose Creek. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wando in their matchups with Goose Creek: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Wando saw an underclassman step up: Malaya Mazyck scored 11 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Mazyck hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Andrus, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Asheville School (Independent) scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 82-9 win over Carolina Day. Asheville School (Independent) has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 27 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Ryann Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Asheville School (Independent)'s points. Another player making a difference was London Miller, who scored six points along with seven steals and six rebounds.
Wando has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Asheville School (Independent), the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4.
