It was a good run, but the Central City Bison unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 61-52 to Cozad. Central City lost against Cozad in their previous head to head back in December of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 47-44 score last time.
Central City's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Truman Ryan, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Ryan scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Ayden Zikmund, who scored 12 points along with six assists.
Cozad got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Noah Shoemaker out in front who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellen Shoemaker, who scored 16 points.
Central City's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2. As for Cozad, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central City and Twin River will face off at 2:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Averaging 53.3 so far this season, Twin River's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Central City better be ready for a challenge. Cozad and Ord will face off at 7:15 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Ord will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Cozad is ranked ninth).
