Bradshaw Mountain is 2-8 against Coconino since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bears will look to defend their home field against the Panthers at 3:45 p.m. Bradshaw Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Bradshaw Mountain had taken Flagstaff down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Bears came up short against the Eagles, falling 17-1. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Skye Oberan was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Coconino came tearing into Friday's contest with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Thunderbirds a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 16 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Kaitlyn Tso made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 21 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
In other batting news, Destiny Villas was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Katelynn Yazzie, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Coconino kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.
Coconino's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Bradshaw Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Both Bradshaw Mountain and Coconino just can't seem to miss. The Bears have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Coconino struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
