The Warsaw Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the NorthWood Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Warsaw is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Warsaw barely beat Manchester the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers blew past the Squires 10-4 on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Squires: they've now won five in a row.
Warsaw got a great performance from Brandt Martin as he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, Martin posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Kellan Bailey was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinton Brock, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Warsaw hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when NorthWood challenged New Prairie on Saturday. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Cougars 4-2. The win was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Brady Blackford tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Connor Reed was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
NorthWood's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Warsaw, their record now sits at 6-3.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Warsaw hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like NorthWood struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Warsaw beat NorthWood 4-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
