It was a good run, but the Sandia Matadors unfortunately witnessed the end of their 12-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 52-44 to Volcano Vista. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sandia has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Sandia still got an impressive performance from Sydney Benally, who scored 19 points along with two steals. Benally hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Hope Giddings, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Sandia's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-1. As for Volcano Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sandia will take on Hobbs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Hobbs is ranked first, while Sandia is ranked third). As for Volcano Vista, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against La Cueva at 6:00 p.m. La Cueva is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
